The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 295 SAWCHUK, John WWII John is the oldest son of Sam & Theodora Sawchuk. He taught school from 1929 until 1941. He enlisted May 1941 with the RCAF and trained in Fingal, Yorkton, St. Thomas, Winnipeg and Saskatoon for 3 years. In April 1944 he was stationed at United Kingdom Base Accounts Unit in London. He requested & received release in March of 1946 upon his return to Canada. He received the Canadian Volunteer Medal, Defense medal and the War medal. SAWCHUK, Martin WWII Martin is the third son of Sam & Theodora Sawchuk. He enlisted in the RCAF and served 5 years as a pilot instructor at various stations in Manitoba & Alberta. He did not serve overseas. He received his honourable discharge in 1945. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Medal and the War medal. SAWCHUK, Peter WWII Peter is the fifth son of Sam & Theodora Sawchuk. He enlisted in the RCAF in 1940 & received training as an aero-engine technician. He was posted to #11 STFS for a few years & then served overseas for 2 years n the #6 Heavy Bombers Group servicing Lancaster planes. He was discharged in Regina in October of 1945. He was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Medal, the Defense medal, and the War medal. SAWCHUK, Michael WWII Michael is the fourth son of Sam & Theodora Sawchuk. He enlisted in the RCAF and served at various Prairie stations as a Rigger (technician) for three years. He was discharged without having gone overseas. He received the Canadian Volunteer Medal and the War medal.
