The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 293 SANDERSON, Ross WWII Ross served in the Royal Canadian Air Force. SAUVE, Joseph WWII Joseph was born in May of 1922 in Duck Lake, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army in February of 1942. He served in Canada until his Honourable Discharge in March of 1946. He received the 1939-45 War Medal and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Joseph is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Duck Lake Branch. SAWCHUK, Bohdan “Bud” WWII Bud is the youngest son of Sam & Theodora Sawchuk. He enlisted in the RCAF in January of 1941 as an airframe mechanic. He was posted to Brandon, MB, Dunnville, ON, St. Thomas, ON, and Lethbridge, AB before being sent overseas in March of 1943. In England he was posted to 426 Bomber Squadron. He returned to Canada in June of 1945 and was discharged in September of 1945. Bud received the Canadian Volunteer Medal, Defense medal and the War medal. SAVAGE, Gordon Trotter WWII Gordon was born in 1921 in Youngstown, AB. He started his military career in 1940 with the Prince Albert and Battleford Volunteers. In August of 1941 he received his discharge from the army reserve and promptly enlisted in the Navy. He served primarily as gunnerʼs mate aboard the Corvette HMCS Chambly, a ship on escort duty in the North Atlantic. In 1944 he was transferred to the HMCS Minas, a minesweeper active off the coast of Normandy. He spent D-Day in the English Channel clearing the way for American troops at Omaha Beach. Gordon passed away on November 11, 2008.
