The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 287 ROURKE, James Mackie “Jim” WWI & WWII In WW I, Jim served overseas with the Canadian Armed Forces fromAugust 6, 1915 to May 19, 1919. After being wounded at Vimy Ridge, he returned home. During WW II, Jim once again volunteered his services. It was his duty to take a load of mules to India traveling by submarine. In Jimʼs words, it “was a stinking trip”. He spent the rest of the War guarding prisoners in Lethbridge. ROWLE, Willis WWII Willis was formerly from north of Pelly, SK. He joined the Armed Forces while down east at Coberg, Ontario. He went overseas in 1942 with the P.P.C.L.I. and was wounded in 1944 during action in Italy. He came back to Canada in 1945 and was later discharged. RUETHER, Garland Wilbur WWII Garland was born in 1920 in Penzance, SK. He enlisted with the Army on July 11, 1941 at the #12 District Depot in Saskatoon. He served as a Vehicle Mechanic with the 5th Infantry Brigade, 2nd Division R.C.A.S.C. in Canada, England, France, Germany, and Holland until his discharge on January 18, 1946. He received the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Defense Medal, C.V.S.M. and a “Thank You” Medal from the people of Holland (presented to his wife in 2003). He was a member of The RCL for 30 years. Garland passed away in 1981. ROY, Arthur WWII Arthur was born on March 5, 1921 in Moosomin, SK. He enlisted with the Army and served with the R.C.E. in England, France, Holland, and Belgium. Arthur has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Moosomin Branch #81 for 51 years.
