He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army and served with the 12th Field Regiment RCA in England, France and Holland. He received the 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, Volunteer Service Medal, G.B. Defense Medal, and the Canadian War Medal. John passed away in 1988. PONTIUS, Jacob “George” WWII George was born on September 21, 1924 in the Osage area. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on November 1, 1943 and trained at Fort Erie, ON as an aircraft assembly mechanic. He served in the military, but did not go overseas. He received the CVSM Service Medal & Can. War Medal. George was discharged in 1946. George passed away on December 25, 1991 at the age of 67 years. PORTEN, Gerald Norman WWII Gerald was born on September 26, 1917 in Bogend, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Armed Forces on August 5, 1942 at the age of 25. He departed for overseas on April 1, 1943. While in England he became a Signalman, Driver Mechanic, water proofing instructor and a dispatch rider. He was promoted to Lance Corporal in February of 1944. He traveled through Continental Europe serving in Holland after the war ended. He returned to Canada on February 2, 1946. He received the War Medal 193945, Defense Medal, CVSM 39-45, and the France and Germany Star. Gerald passed away in 1995. PORTEN, Archibald M. WWII Archie was born on April 21, 1915 in Bogend, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 22, 1941 and departed for overseas on December 26, 1942. He served as Co-pilot and Bomb Aimer with 600 hours of flying time; becoming a pilot officer and a flight officer instructing bombing. He returned to Canada on April 25, 1945. He worked at various jobs, including elevator agent and farming until retirement. He married Vera Hancheroff in 1946. Archie passed away in 1999.
