The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 251 PAYNE, Raymond “Kirk” WWII Kirk was born on September 14, 1924 in Neville, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy and served aboard the HMCS Lachute and the HMS King George V. He received the 1939-45 Star, Atlantic Star, Africa Star, Italy Star, Defense Medal, and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. He also received the WWII Artic Campaign Medal, which was presented many years after the war by the Russian Ambassador in Toronto. Kirk passed away in 1999. PEARDON, Murray Lyman WWII Murray was born in 1920 in Loreburn, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Air Force in 1941 and trained in Calgary. He delivered 7 planes from Nassau, Bahamas to Africa. He served with 575 Squadron and served a total of 1200 hours flying. Murray has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 10 years. PEARSON, Arvid Evald WWII Arvid was born in 1921 in Jasmin, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in Vancouver. He served with the 1st Canadian Parachute Battalion and trained at Port Benning, Georgia. He served overseas. He returned home on the Ile de France and then traveled by train to Vancouver. Arvid passed away in 1991. PEARSON, Alfred Edsel Peacetime Alfred was born in 1928 in Jasmin, SK. He joined the Army for the first time when he was 22 on August 30, 1950 and was Honourably Released on January 28, 1954. During his first enlistment he served as a Signalman. He rejoined some time prior to 1958 and served as a Cpl. in the Postal Corps. His second term ended in 1971. He married Sheila Dey (a Scottish Leading Air Woman in the Canadian Air Force) and after 12 transfers in 10 years, they settled in Calgary, AB with their three children. Alfred passed away in 1983.
