The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 245 OLSHEWSKI, Louis WWII Louis joined the Army in 1943 and was stationed at Port Alberni, B.C. He was discharged in 1945. OʼNEILL, William Gerald “Gerry” WWII William was born in Lampman, SK on July 8, 1920. After first training as an Engine Mechanic, he enlisted in the RCAF in October 1939. He was transferred to Vancouver, and then to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia to 119th Squadron, where he was employed on Bollingbroke aircraft, and occasionally was sent over the Atlantic as an observer, submarine hunting with the squadron, in 1943 Gerry was selected for pilot training in Western Canada. In 1945 he was commissioned and assigned to the Japan Phase of Warfare. After the war he was released, at his request, to civilian status. OSADCHUK, Mitch WWII & Peacetime Mitch joined the Army in 1942 and was kicked out because he was underage. He re-joined in 1944 (age 18), and trained in Georgia where he received his Wings as a Paratrooper. He served in Canada, Britain and Scotland and was discharged in 1948. He received the Canadian Volunteer Medal ʻ39 - ʼ45. He joined the Navy Reserve in 1949 and served on Canadian High seas as Ordinary Seaman. He was discharged on May 6, 1954 and re-joined the Regular Army in 1954. He served in Canada with the Lord Strathcona Horse and was stationed in Calgary & Medford, ON until he was discharged Aug 19, 1960. ONRAIT, Gaston Boer War Gaston was born in 1874 in Agra, India. He moved with his mother to France when he was a boy. At the age of 21, Gaston was appointed by the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Queen Defender of the Faith, to be an officer in their Militia Forces as 2nd Lieutenant, 3rd Battalion, The Connaught Rangers Castlebar. In 1896, he was accepted as a medical student in Ireland. He enlisted with the British Army 4 years later and was sent to Africa as a British General. In 1903 he came to Canada. In 1905 he married and moved to a farm in SK. Gaston passed away in 1948.
