The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 215 McKENZIE, Robert Frederick WWII Robert was born on March 17, 1915 in Tribune, SK. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 and went overseas in January of 1943. He carried out 48 missions with Bomber Command all with the Pathfinder Force, 4 of which he was Master Bomber Crew. He was awarded the DFC for his service. He took part in Operation Manna dropping food to the starving Dutch as well as an Operation repatriating POWS as the war ended. Bob married Georgina Voechting in 1945 and they farmed at Tribune. Robert passed away on March 17, 1970 and is buried in Weyburn, SK. McKIE, William J. WWII William was born on February 22, 1920 in Reston, MB. He enlisted in the Canadian Army Active on March 20, 1941 and served for four years and eight months until November 2, 1945. He served with the Royal Canadian Service Corps. 41st General Transport Company. After the war he served in the Air Force Reserve for 8 years with the rank of Captain. He is a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Foam Lake Branch #16 with service of 53 years. William passed away on January 30, 2000. McLEOD, Lorne Duncan “Mickey” WWII Lorne was born on March 21, 1922 to Norman and Annie Jessie (Turton) McLeod who lived in Carlyle, SK. In 1943, during the Second World War, he enlisted with the RCAF where he trained and became an air-frame technician. In 1943, Lorne married Ellen (Millicent) Kerridge of Morden, MN. Mickey joined the Army as an ambulance driver and was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal. Lorne was discharged in 1945 and returned to Carlyle to work with his brother, Alvin, in the Service Station. They later bought land and started farming. Lorne and Millicent had two children: Alan Lorne and Joelle Louise. Millicent passed away in 1971, and Lorne passed away in December 1976. McKIE (BRADSHAW), Winnifred V. I. WWII Winnifred was born on January 13, 1926 in Reston, MB. She enlisted with the C.W.A.C. in August of 1944 in Regina, SK. She received her advanced training in Kitchener, ON. She graduated from Edmonton Vocational Training School in Clerks Accounting. She was stationed in Calgary, AB processing discharges during de-mobilization. She volunteered for the Pacific Theatre of War. She was discharged in August of 1946. She was a volunteer in the American Navy as a Nursing Sister during the Korean Conflict, but was never called to duty. Winnifred passed away on January 28, 2000.
