The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 209 McCLENNAN, James Ernest “Jim” WWII Lance Corporal McClennan of Prince Albert served in the Army with the Queenʼs Own Highlanders during World War II. He was killed in action in France on August 8, 1944, at age 20. He is buried at Beny-Sur-Mer Canadian War Cemetery near Reviers, France. Jim was the son of William R. and Eva A. G. McClennan, who went to the Coxby District north of Birch Hills in 1910. Jim attended Butler School. The McClennan Creek, which flows north of Pritchard Lake, is named after him. McCRACKEN, Howard R. WWII Howard was born on April 21, 1919 in Medora, MB. In 1931 he moved with the rest of his family to Lacadena, SK. He served in the Second World War from 1942-1945 with the Regina Rifles Regiment. On June 6, 1944 he landed in France on Juno Beach. He was wounded October 12 in Holland. He was sent back o a hospital in England and after convalescence drove a truck until he returned back home in January of 1946. He was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lacadena Branch. Howard passed away on May 10, 2006. MCDONALD, Jim WWII Jim was born to Hugh and Cassie (Mowatt) McDonald on May 23, 1922 - the youngest of seven children. He attended Dalesboro School. In 1940, Jim enlisted in the Canadian Army and served with the Regina Rifles where he trained to be a rifleman. He was discharged in 1945. Upon returning to Saskatchewan, Jim married and found employment at IPSCO. He and his wife, Elsie, raised four children. Jim passed away with cancer in August 1982. McDONALD, Ivan G. WWII Ivan was born on June 18, 1922 in the Plumbridge district of SK (later named Lacadena). He worked for the local farmers in the district until he enlisted with the Armed Forces. He was attached to the South Saskatchewan Regiment and was posted overseas. At the age of 22 he was wounded on September 17, 1944 at Bray Dunes Plage. Ivan passed away 4 days later and is buried at Adegem Canadian War Cemetery, Maldegem OostVlaanderen, Belgium.
