The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 199 MacFIE, Ross C. WWII Ross was born in 1925 in Selkirk, MB. He enlisted with the Army and served with the 3rd A/T Regiment RCA in CAOF Germany. Ross has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Birch Hills Branch #122 for 34 years. MADILL, Raymond Elliot WWII Raymond was born in 1919 in Macklin, SK. He enlisted with the Army and served with the RCA in Canada, England, and Italy until his discharge. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Foam Lake Branch #16. Raymond passed away in 1962. MANSON, Merlin Joseph WWII Merlin was born on June 17, 1923 in Swift Current, SK. He grew up south of Pontiex and attended school at Westerleigh School. He joined the Army in Winnipeg and he was trained at Portage La Prairie. He was shipped overseas in 1943 and fought in Italy on the “Road to Ortona.” He served with the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment in Canada, England and Italy. He died on June 4, 1944 and is buried at the Military Cemetery at Cassino, Italy. In his memory a Bay on Wildnest Lake in the Pelican Narrows area of Northern SK has been named Manson Bay. MANDIN, Emile WWII Emile was born on July 25, 1915 in Carlton, SK. He enlisted with the RCAF and after receiving his training, graduated as an Observer and was stationed overseas where he was attached to 150 RAF Squadron. Flight Sergeant Emile Mandin paid the Ultimate Sacrifice at the age of 26. Emile was killed in Action on June 9, 1942 while among the crew of a Wellington twin-engine bomber that was reported missing in action. He is commemorated on the Runnymede Memorial in Surrey, England. The Saskatchewan GerMemorial, Mandin Lake is located northeast of Lloyd Lake.
