The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 173 KIPPAN, James “Jim” WWII Jim was born on November 25,1915, the son of Duncan and Gertie Kippan. They lived in Carlyle where Duncan built his first garage. When Jim was thirteen years of age, his grandfather passed away and so his father sold the garage and moved out to the Kippan Farm near Swift Creek School, where Jim finished his education. In 1940, Jim joined the 4th Division of the Canadian Army. He worked as a cook for six months but preferred to work outside so he transferred to the Royal Canadian Electrical Engineers Tank Regiment. He served in England, France, Belgium, Holland and West Germany. Jim was discharged in 1945. KIRK, Alfred George Baxenden Boer War & WWI Alfred was born on September 26, 1881 in England. He came to Canada and joined the NW Mounted Police. He served in Africa during the Boer War from 1899 until 1900 with his return to Canada with the NW Mounted Police. He enlisted with the Army on October 15, 1915 and served in France for 34 months with the 1st Canadian Pioneers, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He was discharged on March 7, 1919 with the rank of Sergeant. He was awarded the Military Medal and Oakleaf for 2nd citation for bravery. Alfred passed away in 1952. KIRK, Victor Alfred WWII Victor was born on June 27, 1916 in Abernethy, SK. He enlisted with the Army on September 11, 1939, he volunteered for service the 1st day after the declaration of war. He served with the R.C.E. Corps as an Engineer Fitter in Canada, England, Sicily, Italy, France, and the Netherlands until his discharge on August 31, 1945. He received the Victory Medal, Italian Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, European Star and the African Star. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Abernethy Branch. Victor passed away on August 1, 1995. KIRK, Roy Thomas Baxenden WWII Roy was born on February 4, 1920 in Abernethy, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on January 2, 1941. He served in Canada and the United Kingdom as an Aero-Engine Mechanic until his discharge on August 13, 1945 after 4 years and 223 days of service. He received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Roy passed away in 1992 in Vancouver, BC.
