The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 153 HOLMES, Maurice WWI & WWII Maurice was born in 1893 in Milhaven, ON. In 1914 he joined the 43rd Cameron highlanders. He was wounded in the right leg and thigh and became a prisoner of war in 1918. He arrived in France from Germany on Dec. 21, 1918 and was taken to England to the hospital in Jan. of 1919. He spent 2 years in hospitals and was discharged on April 7, 1920. On August 5, 1940 he joined the 2nd Battalion of the South Sask. Reg. as Quartermaster, attached to the staff of Estevan Headquarters and did recruiting. He was an original member of The RCL #306. Maurice passed away in 1947. HOLUKOFF, Peter WWII He served with Canadian Armed Forces during WW II. Peter was killed in action in 1944. HOUGHTALING, Ross William WWII Ross was born in 1912 in Milestone, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1942. He was an Air Frame Mechanic and spent the first winter in Regina going to school and then continued on with training in Lachine, QC, St. Thomas, ON, and finally was stationed in Fort McLeod, AB. He received his discharge in 1945 and farmed with his father in Gray, SK. In 1977 he and his wife moved to Wawota, SK to be near family. Ross joined The Royal Canadian Legion Wawota Branch and he has remained a member since then. HOOKER, Rex Murray WWII Rex was born in 1921 in Wapella, SK. He joined the 2nd Anti-Tank Regiment in 1939 and served overseas until he was killed in action on May 1, 1945, just seven days before the end of the war. Lance Bombadier Rex Murray Hooker is buried in Holten Canadian War Cemetery, Overijssel, Netherlands. Hooker Lake just east of Wollaston Lake is named in his honour.
