The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 147 HERFINDAHL, Oliver WWII Oliver joined the Army in 1941 in Regina and was stationed there for 2 months and then he transferred to R.C.A. at Dartmouth Nova Scotia. He transferred Oct 1941 to gander airport in N.F.L.D. for 2 years. He returned to Canada in 1943 for a while and then went overseas in 1944 to Belgium, Holland, & Germany until war was over. He returned to Canada in 1945 and was discharged in 1946 at Regina. HEWITT, Wilbert Harold WWII In 1940 Wilbert was conscripted to take one month of Basic Military training during WWII. After this he voluntarily enlisted with the Canadian Dental Corps where he was quickly promoted to Head of Dental Technicians and rank of Sergeant. He was posted at Regina, Dundurn, Saskatoon and Prince Albert. In 1943 he was sent to Halifax. He was sent to New York to embark on the HMS Nabob in 1944. Sgt. W. H. Hewitt was sent home on Survivorʼs Leave in 1945 and later honourably discharged. He received his 50-year service pin from the Carlyle Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. HILL, Ray WWII Ray was born on October 1, 1920 in Birch Hills, SK. He enlisted with the Army Elgin Regiment and served as a cook with his brother George. He served in Britain, Holland, Belgium, France and Germany until his discharge. He received the following Medals: 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, 1939-45 Canada Volunteer Service Medal with Red, Green and Black Ribbon. Ray passed away on June 20, 1980. HILL, George Lewis WWII George was born on June 7, 1919 in Birch Hill, SK. He enlisted with the Army on January 16, 1942 and served with the Elgin Regiment as a Cook. He served in England, Holland, France and Germany until his discharge on November 21, 1945. He received the following Medals: 1939-45 Star, France and Germany Star, 1939-45 Canada Volunteer Service Medal with Red, Green and Black Ribbon. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Birch Hills Branch #122 for 50 years. George passed away on November 2, 1998.
