The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 137 GUSHULAK, John WWII John was born in 1918 in Burgis, SK. He enlisted on July 3, 1941 at the age of 22. His branch of service was the Canadian Army Postal Corps. He trained in Ottawa and at Ottawaʼs Post Office. He was promoted from Corporal to Sergeant and he transferred letters, parcels and newspapers. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lumsden Branch #234 for 45 years, serving as president in 1962, before moving to Regina in 1985. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Regina Branch for 5 years. John passed away on February 20, 2000. GUSHULAK, Michael WWII Michael was born in 1920 in Canora, SK. He trained in Ottawa and worked at the Ottawa Post Office as a clerk in the Canadian Postal Corps from June 1941 until May of 1942. He worked all over Canada and was promoted from Corporal to Sergeant when he was posted to Dartmouth, NS partly because he understood and was able to speak French. While in Dartmouth he was hospitalized with Pneumonia and Pluresy. From September 1945 to March of 1946 he was at Fort Sanitorium, Fort QuʼAppelle to treat spots on his lungs. Michael currently resides in Hamilton, ON. HAIRE, Joe WWII Joe joined the South Saskatchewan Regiment of the Royal Canadian Army. GUSHULAK, William George WWII William was born in 1916 in Drobot, SK. He enlisted with the R.C.A.F. in December of 1941. He trained in Range Direction Finding; Electronics; Radio & Radar in Edmonton, Saskatoon, Clinton and Toronto. From Halifax, he sailed along with many military personnel. He sailed in a convoy aboard “The Lady Rodney” on rough seas for Tor Bay, NL. He was there from December 1942 until June of 1945 when he was posted to NS and NB. He was President of the Foam Lake Legion Branch from 1976-78 and a member for 54 years. William passed away on July 6, 2004.
