The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 135 GREENBANK, James Donald WWII James was born in 1918 in Kelso, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1943. He served in Canada and was stationed at Dauphin Manitoba with the rank of Leading Aircraftsman. He was discharged in 1945. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Wawota Branch. James passed away in 2004. GRINDLE, Lawrence WWII Lawrence joined the Army in 1940 at the age of 18. He arrived overseas just as the war ended. He stayed in the force until 1946 and was then discharged. GUDMUNSON, Matthias WWI Matthias was born in 1893 in Iceland. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army on September 15, 1915 in Yorkton, SK. He served in Canada, England, France and Germany. He was wounded at the Battle of Vimy Ridge and was hospitalized for 9 months. He returned to active service in the Motor Machine Gun Brigade and was in Bonn, Germany when the war ended. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Foam Lake Branch #16 for 56 years. Matthias passed away in 1982. GROES, James Arthur “Jim” Peacetime Jim was born on December 11, 1941 in St. Thomas, ON. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force and served in Canada and with the U.N. He served Egypt with the C.C.U.N.M.E. fromApril 15, 1978 to October 15, 1978 and then in Golan Heights with the U.N.D.O.F. from October 15, 1980 to April 15, 1981. Jim is a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Vedder Crossing Branch.
