The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 133 GRAPKO, Peter WWII Peter was born in 1920 in Usherville, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as an Air Frame Mechanic on the West Coast of Canada. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Gull Lake Branch. Peter passed away in 1963. GRAY, Howard WWII Howard was born in 1916 at Cannington Manor. His parents moved to Carlyle in 1920. When the Second World War broke out he enlisted in the South Sask. Regiment of the Canadian Army. He was trained at Camp Shilo and Toronto and landed in England on December 25, 1940. After further training he was promoted to Corporal. In August 1942, he landed at Dieppe and was captured by the Nazis and was held as a prisoner until the end of the war. He was forced to go on a death march with approximately 1000 men, and was one of only 250 who survived. Howard returned to Canada and was discharged in 1945. He married Mariah and they had one daughter, Stella Maralyn. Howard passed away in 1987. GREEN, Joseph James WWII Joseph was born on December 4, 1915 in Moosomin, SK. He served in WWII from 1939-45 as an Anti Tanker. He went to Italy, France, Germany, Belgium and Holland. He received several medals for his duties. After 6 years in the service he returned home to his waiting wife Mary in Regina. Joseph passed away on March 24, 1974. GRAY, Jesse WWII Jesse was born in 1918 at Cannington Manor. At the age of two, his family moved to Carlyle, where he was raised and educated. In 1939, Jesse enlisted in the Canadian Army with the Calgary Highlanders. He was sent over to England and served as a dispatch rider. He achieved the rank of Lance Corporal. Jesse was discharged in 1945.
