The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 127 GILES, Fredrick Howard WWI Fredrick was born in 1898 in Radisson, SK. He enlisted with the Army and served with the 188th Battalion and with the 46th Battalion, Saskatchewan Regiment in France. Fredrick was killed in Action in 1917 in Belgium. He received the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. GILES, William Ancilrow WWI William was born in 1849 in Fayetteville, Georgia. He enlisted with the Army during the First World War and served with the 58th C.F.C. in France. William passed away in 1937. GILLIS, James J. WWII James was born in 1927. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Army during World War Two and served with the Royal Canadian Hussers Reserve in Canada for the duration of the War. James passed away in 1997. GILLISS, Alexander “Sandy” WWII Sandy was born in Napan, NB in 1900. There, he worked as a chef in the lumber camps and tugboats. He went to Carlyle, SK on a harvest excursion in 1926, where he worked on the Brady Farms. After harvest, he returned to the NB lumber camp. He returned to the Carlyle area in 1927 and stayed. In 1943, Sandy joined the RCAF and took his basic training in Lachine, Quebec. He served as a corporal with the Service Police in both Ontario and British Columbia - his family accompanied him. One of his interesting duties was patrolling trains between Vancouver and Calgary, escorting servicemen who were A.W.O.L. Sandy was discharged in 1945.
