The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command LEST WE FORGET 109 EGGENSCHWILER, Carl WWII Carl joined the R.C.A.F. in 1939 as a machinist (his trade) and served in Canada and Newfoundland. He later re-mustered to interpreter, serving in that capacity in Canada and overseas until 1944. He returned to Canada and was on loan as translator to the War Service Censorship Branch in Ottawa. Carl returned to Pelly in 1945. ELL, Joseph Edward WWII Joseph was born on March 6, 1919 in Dilke, SK. He enlisted with the RCAF. He was sent to England where he became a member of the 15 Squadron of the RAF. Along with his crew he completed a tour of operational duty in action against the enemy and received the Distinguished Flying Cross presented to him by the King at Buckingham Palace. The citation of this award reads as follows: “This officer has completed numerous operations against the enemy in the course of which he has invariably displayed the utmost fortitude, courage and devotion of duty.” Joseph passed away in 2004. ELLWOOD, Fredrick WWII In 1941 Fredrick joined the 14th Canadian Hussarʼs and saw active duty in Holland, France & Germany. He returned from the war and joined the RCMP stationed in Lethbridge In 1947 he worked in Regina and Edmonton as an elevator agent at Legoff. In 1948 he worked for an oil company and was accidentally killed at Fiske, SK in 1951 with burial at Edmonton. Fredrick had one son, William. ELL, Peter WWII Peter was born on December 8, 1922 in Sedley, SK. He served with the 4th Division Headquarters, first as an Army Service Corps Driver then as a Padre Driver. After his 6 month training in Canada he spent 2 years in England and 1 year on the march from France to Germany. While in Holland he received the news of the death of his younger brother who was also serving in Holland but in a different location. Peter now resides in Regina, SK where he spent many years as a Legion Member.
