SUTHERLAND (nee BEADLE), Ilene WWII Ilene was born in 1922 in Yorkshire, England. She enlisted with the W.A.A.F. in 1942 and served all over England, originally as a Driver Mechanic but then as a Cook. In 2 years she moved a total of 12 times. She served a total of 3 years, 3 months and 9 days until her discharge in August of 1945. She has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Biggar Branch #138 for 38 years. Ilene was discharged in August of 1945. SUTHERLAND, William WWII William was born in Fairy Glen, ON and came with his family to Eldersley in 1920. He enlisted with the R.C.A. 4th Field Regiment on September 14, 1939. He transferred into Catering Corps then to No. 3 Battle Wing C.T.S. as a Cook. He served in Canada and England and was wounded in Dieppe. He received his discharge on November 12, 1945. After the war he married and moved to Kelowna, BC where they raised a family of 4 children. SWANSON, Roy Allan Peacetime Roy was born in 1936 in Big River, SK. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in April of 1958 and served in Canada. Roy passed away in 2000. SYDNEY, Allen WWII Allen was born on May 23, 1915 in Rosewood, SK. He joined the Army in 1940 and was assigned to the Special Wireless Section Type “B,” Royal Canadian Signals as a driver, where he attained the rank of Lance Corporal. His unit crossed over by ship to England and from there went to Europe including Holland and Belgium. He demobilized in 1945, married and settled in the Abernethy District. Allen has been a Member of the Abernethy Branch #26 of The Royal Canadian Legion for 62 years. SYRYDA (nee HARVEY), Helen Marie WWII Helen was born in 1923 in QuʼAppelle, SK. She enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force (Womenʼs Division) and served in Canada. Helen has been a member of The Royal Canadian Legion for 36 years and has held various executive posts in Tompkins and Fort QuʼApelle. She received her 50 year pin in Auxiliary.
