STEELE, James Harry WWI James was born in 1897 in Whitewood, SK. He joined the Army during the First World War. He served in England and Europe until he was wounded. James was sent back to England, where he died as a result of his wounds in 1918 at the age of 21. STEELE, Joseph Roy WWII Joseph was born in 1899 in Whitewood, SK. He joined the Army during the Second World War and served in England. He returned home after the war. Joseph passed away in 1979. STEEL, William G. Korean War William was born on August 5, 1943 in Moose Jaw, SK. He served with the Toronto Highlanders Reserve in 1961 and joined the Royal Canadian Engineers in February of 1962, serving until August of 1976. He received the Saskatchewan Centennial Medal. William has been a member of the Shellbrook Branch of The Royal Canadian Legion for 11 years. STEINHAUER, George Henry WWII George was born on November 13, 1919 in Morse, SK. He joined the R.A.F. Bomber Command during World War Two. His basic training began at Brandon, continued at Kinloss, Scotland and Dishforth with RAF, by now flying the Halifax four motor bomber. George was remembered as a very big man, well over six feet tall. He died, ironically, trying to ensure supplies for Russia, the country that 40 years earlier had forced the Steinhauer family to Canada. George was killed in action in Norway on March 30, 1942. STERLING, James Wellington WWII James was born on January 6, 1924 in Shellbrook, SK. He enlisted with the 1st Battalion, Algonquin Regiment in 1942 and served in Canada, England, Germany, Holland, France, and Belgium until his discharge in 1945. He was wounded twice and carried shrapnel embedded in his arm for the rest of his life. He received 5 medals, 2 Gold Stars- G.R.F., 2 Silver Medallions - (King George VI) and the German Star.
