SCHLAGETER, Karl Wilhelm WWII Karl was born on December 14, 1922 in Arbuthnot, SK. He enlisted with the Army in 1940 and served with the 1st Battalion Regina Rifle Regiment in Canada, England and Europe until 1946. Following the war he married Rosalie Douville in 1947. After farming for a few years he went to work for the Sask Wheat Pool, this job took him to various towns in SK. In 1969 they settled in Pontiex, SK. He was an active member of The Royal Canadian Legion Pontiex Branch #297 for 50 years. Karl passed away in August of 2004. SCHMIDT, Harry WWI Harry was born on December 10, 1890 in Badin, Ontario. He served with the U.S. Army during World War One. He was married in Browning, SK in 1921 and they made their home in Steelman where they had a family of 5. Due to the drought the family moved north to New Osgoode in 1930 settling on SE-14-46-13. Harry passed away on October 18, 1933. SCHMITT, Bill WWII Bill was born in 1920 in Holdfast, SK. The family moved to Arborfield in 1934. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on June 9, 1941 and served as a Pilot with 34 ops under his belt until his discharge on September 1, 1945. He was awarded the D.F.C. 1943 by King George VI for his leadership, skill and determination under enemy fire to complete his missions. He returned to Arborfield and married and raised 2 children. Bill passed away in 2004. SCHMITT, Henry WWII Henry was born in 1924 in Holdfast, SK. The family moved to Arborfield in 1934. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on August 30, 1943. He transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy and served aboard H.M.C.S. Cornwallis until his discharge on October 30, 1945. He bought land from the Government in 1952 and married and raised a family of 5 children. Henry is still helping the sons farm. SCHNELL, Clifford N. WWII Clifford was born on January 26, 1921 in Constance, SK. He enlisted with the Army on June 25, 1941 and was placed with the Calgary Regiment Tank Corp. He served in England, Italy, Sicily, France, Belgium, and Holland. He was awarded the following medals: 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, France & Germany Star, Defense Medal, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. On May 3, 2003 he was awarded with a Commemorative Medal from the Ambassador of the Netherlands Embassy. Clifford currently resides in Coronach, SK.
