MELNYCHUK, Alex WWII Alex was born in 1919 in Theodore, SK. He enlisted with the Canadian Army Active in the spring of 1941. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Italy until his discharge in 1946. He married Gladys Aveyard and they adopted a son and had a daughter. He worked with the department of highways until his retirement at age 65. Gladys passed away and he later married Lena Rogoze. Alex and Lena currently reside in Yorkton, SK. MELNYCHUK, John WWII John was born on April 2, 1923 in Theodore, SK. He volunteered for armed service in the Forestry Corps in December of 1941. He served with the Postal Corps in the United Kingdom, Italy, France, and Belgium until his discharge on February 7, 1946. He married Glenna Bandura on October 26, 1947 and they raised 1 son and 1 daughter. He worked at Inland Cement for 31 years and is now retired. John currently resides in Regina, SK. MELNYCHUK, Steve WWII Steve was born in 1917 in Theodore, SK. He was called for Army service in the spring of 1940. He served in Canada and Europe until he was wounded and sent back to Canada. He was discharged in the Spring of 1945 with the rank of L/Corp. He married Elizabeth Babiduke in 1949 and they had one daughter and two sons. He farmed west of Sheho for some time before moving to BC in 1955. Steve passed away on February 28, 1967. MELNYK, Michael “Mike” WWII Mike was born in 1920 in Sokal, SK. He enlisted with the R.C.A.F. in 1941 specializing as a wireless operator. He graduated as a pilot officer in September 1943. He deployed to India in August 1944 where the Canadians were preparing to stop the Japanese advancement through Burma. He served in Canada, Alaska, England, Burma, and India. Mike married Ethel Andre in June 1946 and raised 5 children. He was active on many political, agricultural and community organizations. Mike passed away on November 24, 2006 at the age of 86. MELROSE, Audrey WWII Audrey was born in 1922 in Arborfield, SK. She enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force on September 10, 1942. She served as a Clerk at the No. 1 Air Command Administration Office in Trenton, ON until her discharge on November 16, 1945. After the war she married and moved to Summerland, BC.
