HITCHENS, Edwin Harold WWII Edwin was born on January 17, 1925 in Abernethy, SK. He enlisted with the Army on July 6, 1943. He served with the 1st Hussars as a gunner-operator in Canada, the United Kingdom, and Continental Europe until his discharge in 1946. He received the 1939-45 France-Germany Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Edwin passed away on April 28, 1977 in Sintaluta, Saskatchwan at the age of 52. HNATUIK, Nick WWII Nick was born in Insinger, SK. He enlisted with the Army on December 16, 1942. He served with Infantry for 3 years with the South Saskatchewan Regiment in Canada, the United Kingdom, Continental Europe, Belgium, Holland, and Germany until his discharge on April 2, 1946. He married Eileen in 1951 and continued farming until 1961. He then was hired for postal service and worked in Insinger and then Sheho as postmaster until 1986. Nick is presently living on his own acreage in Insinger, SK. HOFFMAN, Henry Charles WWII Henry was born on May 4, 1920 in Plummer, Minnesota. He came to Sheho when he was 6 and received his education at Sheho School. He joined the Canadian Army Active on January 22, 1942. He served with the Canadian Light Anti Air Craft 88th Battery in Canada, Great Britain, Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany until his discharge on January 18, 1946. He received The 1939-45 Star, Italy Star, The Defense Medal, and The Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp. Henry passed away on April 29, 1968. HOFFMAN, Joe M. WWII Joe was born in Plummer, Minnesota. He came to Sheho with his parents when he was young and he attended Sheho School. He joined the Canadian Army on February 8, 1940. He served with the 8th Canadian Recce Regiment in Canada, England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. He received the France and Germany Star, 1939-45 Star, Canadian Voluntary Service Medal, 1939-45 Defense Medal and the George VI Victory Medal. He married Bernice and they have 7 children. Joe is an active member in the Sheho Legion Branch. HOLDSTOCK, Steve WWII Steve was born in 1913 in Lockwood, SK. He came to the Arborfield area in 1932. He enlisted with the Army on March 12, 1943 and served with the 12th Division Tank Corps. Steve was killed in action on June 6, 1944, D-Day in Dieppe. He is buried at the Canadian War Cemetery near Reviers, France. He received the following medals: Star of France, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal, and King George Medal.
