The Royal Canadian Legion Saskatchewan Command Commemorative History Booklet 276 hosted and attended Zone and District Rallies; Creelman invited the Legion to attend the opening of a new hall and official unveiling of their Cenotaph; a Benefit Dance was held for Ken Ogden, when he was badly burned; take part in all Branch activities, such as curling; a Cenotaph was built in front of Memorial Hall in Fillmore in 1957. There are seventeen Life Members of Fillmore Branch 299: Peter Mackie, Art Nixon, Art Brown, Frank Tippett, Art Meisner, Jim Fowler, Joe Liggs, John MacLean. C.A. Robertson, Norman Meisner, Stan Blaxland, John Nixon, W.T. Hall, A. Brewin, Len Davis, Lorne Halbert, and Jack Jones, At the present time, Executive Officers are: Willie Carnegie, President; Arnold Cherry and Gordon Johnston, Poppy Committee; Pat Farrell, Secretary/Treasurer; Lieut. Colonel Murray Allan, Commanding Officer of Royal Regina Rifles Regiment, Sergeant-at-Arms. There are 21 active members, to date. LADIES’ AUXILIARY TO FILLMORE BRANCH 299 In November 1949, at the request of Fillmore Branch 299, a meeting was held to consider the organization of a Ladies’ Auxiliary. Eleven ladies eligible for membership were present: Mrs. A. Hofmiester, Mrs. Vernon Hofmeister, Mrs. Ben Tollefson, Mrs. M. Treble, Mrs. John Nixon, Mrs. Arthur Nixon, Mrs. Robert Farrell (Creelman), Mrs. A.K. Broughton (Creelman), Mrs. W.T. Hall, Mrs. Peter Mackie, and Mrs. Arthur Brown. On April 12, 1950, Mrs. Marian Rickhard, Zone Representative from Balcarres, attended a meeting and formally instituted an official Ladies’ Auxiliary. Fifteen members were initiated and the first slate of officers installed for the year 1950: Mrs. Susan Mackie, President; Mrs. Eva Hall, 1st Vice-President; Mrs. Phyllis Farrell; 2nd Vice-President; Mrs. Gladys Robertson, Secretary; Mrs. Bertha MacLean, Treasurer; Mrs. Elaine Hofmeister, Standard Bearer; Mrs. Grace Brown, Pianist; Mrs. Opal Broughton, Mrs. Irene Fowler, Mrs. Ila Ogden, Executive members; Mrs. Etta Nixon, Mrs. Mary Tollefson, Eva Hofmeister, Maude Nixon and Gladys Treble, Committee members. The combined names of this slate of officers, executive and committee members, fifteen in all, comprised enough to qualify for an official charter as per the constitution. The Charter, dated April 14, 1950, was applied for and received in June 1950. Membership in December 1950 totaled twenty-six. Fillmore Hall Board donated space to the Auxiliary adjacent to the Legion. Money was raised by raffles, lunches, catering, etc., and serving Lions' Suppers ten months a year for thirty-nine years. Veterans' needs, charities and other projects benefited from the proceeds. Mrs. Mary Tollefson's artistic place card design was acknowledged and made available to all Saskatchewan Auxiliaries. The Auxiliary assisted the Branch in purchasing Bronze name plaques for a "Memory Board" that continually lists all deceased Veterans from Fillmore, Creelman, Tyvan and Osage from the Boer War and World Wars I and II. The Ladies’Auxiliary to Fillmore Branch 299 has the following Life Members: Eva Hall, Emily Gray, Marjory Fowler, Phyllis Farrell, Elaine Hofmeister, Velma Harwood, Hazel Babcock, Dorothy Scott, Mary Jones, Elva Nelson and Elaine Wightman. Officers from 1999-2000 are as follows: Rosella Zyla, President; Doreen Carnegie, 1st Vice-President; Mary Jones, 2nd Vice-President; Terry Boll, Secretary; Nancy Farrell, Treasurer; Rosella Zyla, Pianist; Elaine Wightman, Canadian Flag Bearer; Doreen Carnegie, Union Jack Flag Bearer; Mary Jones, Auxiliary Flag Bearer.
