81 www.rnca.ca Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Association 2018 Police Officer of the Year – Royal Canadian Mounted Police Currently stationed in Springdale, Constable Strowbridge’s nomination highlighted: • Presentations on anti-bullying, drugs, internet safety and awareness as well as Safe Schools. • Presentations to a variety of citizens in her assigned communities with topics ranging from internet safety to identity theft, elder abuse, fraud and scams. • Constable Strowbridge is an Instructor in Collaborative Approach in the investigation of Child Sexual Abuse. She has travelled to instruct other officers and social workers. • Been active in her communities in youth groups such as Sparks, Guides and Air Cadets Nominations noted Constable Strowbridge’s fundamental concern with the students she encounters in her daily activities. Her demeanor and approach are such that she is often able to de-escalate a situation effectively. Despite the fact that Constable Strowbridge is in uniform and clearly in authority, the students respond to her clear message that she is there to help. She manages to be clear and matter-of-fact when communicating with both students and adults. From her background as a teacher prior to becoming a member of the RCMP, and from having young children of her own, she is able to relate to young people exceptionally well. Seen as a strong communicator, her communication style is comprehensive and well-organized. She has succeeded in establishing a rapport of trust and confidence between citizens and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. Constable Paula Strowbridge
