1 www.peicrimestoppers.com We are all very fortunate to live in one of the most beautiful, and safe provinces in Canada. By working together, and embracing a community mindset, we have been able to protect each other from some difficult times over the past few years. I want to thank all residents for their continued dedication to keeping our Island a safe place to call home. On PEI, we value our important relationship with law enforcement services that keep Islanders safe from tip to tip. The individuals who serve our province have always played a critical role in keeping communities across our Island safe, and as the needs of our residents evolve, this commitment and dedication to safety and well-being is as important as ever. As Islanders, we all have a responsibility in contributing to keep communities safe, and having strong partnerships with groups such as Crime Stoppers only helps strengthen Islanders sense of safety and well-being. I am proud of the partnership that exists with the Province and Crime Stoppers, and I look forward to continuing our commitment to Islanders. By working together, we can and will keep safety for our communities and residents a priority, so that we can continue to enjoy all our Island has to offer. Sincerely, Hon. Bloyce Thompson Deputy Premier of Prince Edward Island Minister of Justice and Public Safety and Attorney General

3 www.peicrimestoppers.com 1-800-222-TIPS On behalf of the PEI Dept. of Justice and Public Safety, Conservation and Enforcement Section, I would like to take a moment to thank the PEI Crime Stoppers Program for the hard work and dedication they show throughout the year. The anti-bullying Campaign continues to be a great success, the Coordinator and Board members work diligently to ensure the program runs effectively and has a positive impact on Island Schools. Over the years PEI Conservation Officers and the Crime Stoppers Program have developed a successful partnership and continue to work together to help keep Islanders safe and protect the Island’s natural resources. We are dedicated to continuing to grow this partnership in the years to come. Sincerely, Erin Perry We are particularly proud of the fact that since our inception in 1989 PEI Crime Stoppers has helped our law enforcement partners solve 1,324 criminal cases and assisted in the recovery/seizure of property and drugs valued at $3,254,817 in our province. This shows that by the collaborative effort of the community, law enforcement and the media we are making a difference. EXECUTIVE President - Mark Pharand Vice President - Allison J. Lynn Murray, QC Key & Murray Law There are several key agencies and partners, who engage tirelessly every day, working in public safety and crime prevention across Prince Edward Island. PEI Crime Stoppers is one of those important players providing a direct line for the public to engage police in helping to solve crime. As Commanding Officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) of Prince Edward Island, I know I speak for our entire team in expressing our gratitude for the chance to be a part of this year’s Annual Awareness guide. The collaboration with PEI Crime Stoppers allows the RCMP on PEI to reach more people, gather valuable information, and make positive contributions to policing operations. When Islanders and visitors to PEI report suspicious activity, we can better serve and protect our communities. Sometimes, people are unsure whether they should report information. Often, small details can make a big difference to further an investigation preventing a crime from taking place, or helping solve one that has occurred. Using PEI Crime Stoppers, a person can remain anonymous when providing information to 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or by visiting the PEI Crime Stoppers website. PEI Crime Stoppers is backed by a solid teamworking hard behind the scenes. From the operations staff to community volunteers who organize public education campaigns, fundraising initiatives and many outreach events, we recognize your important work and welcome the chance to work with you each and every day. 5 www.peicrimestoppers.com On behalf of Kensington Police Service, I would like to commend Don Rodd as well as the executive and board members for another successful year with PEI Crime Stoppers. Over the past couple of years, we have noted that more and more citizens are using Crime Stoppers to get tips to law enforcement regarding impaired drivers and drug related offences. This information helps police to carry out investigations and often leads to the arrest of persons involved in criminal activity. PEI Crime Stoppers continues to be a major asset to the policing community on PEI. Numerous arrests are made annually, suspects identified, drugs seized and property recovered as a result of tips contributed by the public. This leads to our Island communities being safer places to work and live. In conclusion, we encourage Islanders to continue using this service as it is a very valuable tool to assisting police agencies to solve crimes. Remember—Crime Stoppers wants your information, not your name! And you will note that there are now 3 ways to provide your tips which include telephone, online and the crime stoppers app. Chief Lewie Sutherland Kensington Police Service Report anonymously via our Mobile App, see peicrimestoppers.com for free download PEI Crime Stoppers provides an important service that helps members of the public who have information about a crime to share that information with police, confident in their anonymity and free from fear of retribution. They create an awareness of crime and foster a willingness in the community to fight back. The organization is a great example of people supporting each other as police can’t do their job without the support of their community. This type of program can only operate successfully with a team of dedicated, hard-working people and we are proud to work with the Volunteer Board and the Program Coordinator, Don Rodd. The positive impact that Crime Stoppers has within our community is clear to everyone involved. On behalf of Charlottetown Police Services, I congratulate the PEI Crime Stoppers organization on their 34th year of operation and for producing their 23rd Annual Awareness Guide, and Charlottetown Police Services thank you for helping keep our Island communities safe and strong. Brad MacConnell Chief of Police Charlottetown Police Services I would like to take this opportunity to both thank and congratulate PEI Crime Stoppers for their outstanding efforts in working hand in hand with PEI law enforcement agencies to make our island and its communities safer. The topic for this year's guide is anti-bullying. Bullying has a significant impact on its victims that can be life altering and ever-lasting. In today's technologically advanced world, and the now everyday use of social media and text messaging, victims of bullying can often feel like there is no escape or relief from their harassers. It is so very important that we as law enforcement agencies continue to get the message out that this kind of behavior is unacceptable. In addition to enforcement actions, we must also continue to work with our partner agencies to support victims of bullying and help them through what can be the most difficult and trying times in their lives. Summerside Police Services are committed to continuing our awareness and educational campaigns in this regard. In closing, I would like to thank Crime Stoppers for shining a light on this very important topic and thank them again for their tireless dedication to the people of province of Prince Edward Island. Respectfully, Chief Sinclair G Walker Summerside Police Services

7 www.peicrimestoppers.com Remember: We want your information, not your name! Crime really does affect us all and PEI Crime Stoppers is a program that empowers regular people to fight back against crime. Anyone can submit an anonymous tip by using our tips line, website or mobile app. We don't need your name – just your information. We don't ask for names or numbers and guarantee it is 100% anonymous. Crime Stoppers is a worldwide program, which operates in 32 countries around the world. The program started in 1976 and is the number one community based crime solving organization in the world. PEI Crime Stoppers has been assisting in stopping, solving and preventing crime in the Prince Edward Island since 1989. Crime Stoppers is made up of three partners; the community, law enforcement and the media. We owe our success to all three. Our volunteer board of Directors are the backbone of our operation, helping with projects, attending events, working on special events and providing person power or expertise. We would not exist without them. In November 2021, it was announced that PEI Crime Stoppers was awarded the 2021 Crime Stoppers International Specialized Training and Program Award for Youth Engagement. This international recognition was in response to the provincial anti bullying campaign which is presented in PEI schools in partnership with the Charlottetown Islanders Hockey Team. These presentations have again this year been tremendously successful in the schools and the number of requests have increased dramatically this year. We live in a wonderful province and enjoy, for the most part, a very safe place to live, learn and do business. Working together we can ensure it stays that way. Together we are making a difference! Don Rodd, Provincial Coordinator PEI Crime Stoppers President’s Message Hello everyone, The year 2022 can be said to be the year we returned to some normalcy after the pandemic. In person services, offices opening to the public, and educational institutions providing in class learning. I believe we must all be grateful to our first responder community who worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic providing emergency services to our communities, “thank you.” Without these committed women and men providing emergency services and delivering social programs, the pandemic would have had even greater impact on Islanders and our Island economy. PEI Crime Stoppers continues to support our policing community in solving crime and recovering stolen property through the tips program, Twitter, Facebook and our website. PEI Crime Stoppers continues to receive strong support from the public and the business community providing tips that solve crimes across PEI. PEI Crime Stoppers has continued our very successful Anti-Bullying Program in Island Elementary Schools with our partner the Charlottetown Islanders Hockey Club. Our Board of Directors and the educational community support this Anti-Bullying Program reaching hundreds of Island Children every year. In 2022 PEI Crime Stoppers resumed the Police Officer of the Year Award recognizing individual Police Officers for their dedication and hard work. PEI Crime Stoppers will add Peace Officers to this award ceremony in 2023 recognizing the important role they play in keeping our community safe and protecting our natural resources. The success of PEI Crime Stoppers is driven by a dedicated Board of Directors, Police Advisors and our coordinator Mr. Don Rodd. I am very grateful for their support and the many volunteer hours they commit to keeping our communities safe. Don not only manages the Tips Program and social media sites, he continues to deliver presentations to seniors in our community on the common signs of scams. Criminals have been targeting seniors with numerous scams and PEI Crime Stoppers will continue to educate Islanders on how to protect themselves. I would personally like to thank the policing community for their ongoing support of PEI Crime Stoppers. These partnerships play an integral part in solving crime and recovering stolen property. PEI Crime Stoppers continues to ensure Islanders have ready access to our three completely anonymous crime stopper contact methods. • Mobile app at www.crimestoppers.com • Telephone 1-800-222-tips •On line form at www.peicrimestoppers.com Please take advantage of these methods to contact PEI Crime Stoppers so we can work together to make our communities safe places to live. 25 www.peicrimestoppers.com Human Trafficking, it’s happening here. what is Human Trafficking? HUMAN TRAFFICKING IS MODERN-DAY SLAVERY Human Traffickings defined as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harbouring or receipt of persons, by various means of coercion, force, fraud, or the abuse of power, for the purpose of exploitation. Exploitation typically includes sexual exploitation, forced labour, involuntary servitude, or slavery. The clandestine nature of Human Trafficking makes it difficult to ascertain its true magnitude. The United Nations however has estimated that over 700,000 persons are trafficked annually. Other organizations have put the estimated totals even higher than this. It is also estimated that more than half of the people who are trafficked annually are children! Child victims of trafficking are often exploited for sexual purposes, including prostitution, pornography and sex tourism. They are also exploited for forced labour, including domestic servitude, sweatshop factory work and migrant farming. VICTIMS OF TRAFFICKING CAN BE FOUND IN: • Commercial sex or prostitution • Nannies or servants • Sweatshops factories • Construction • Farming or landscaping where does it occur? DON’T CLOSE YOUR EYES TO HUMAN TRAFFICKING Certainly experience has show that Human Trafficking occurs in our major cities across Canada, however it is not exclusively restricted there. Wherever there is a demand for any of the services referred to in the pervious list, it is conceivable victims can be found there as well. Perhaps in your own community! Please don’t close your eyes to Human Trafficking, If you suspect or know of Human Trafficking activity please contact your local Police, or if you wish to remain anonymous, call your local Crime Stoppers program at 1-800-222-TIPS.
