5 www.peicrimestoppers.com Crime Stoppers has become an important partner in solving crime on Prince Edward Island over the years and, as Commanding Officer of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) of Prince Edward Island, I am honoured to be part of the PEI Crime Stoppers program and this years’ Annual Awareness Guide. The relationship between police agencies on the Island and PEI Crime Stoppers has developed a secure connection with citizens who are eager to assist with fighting crime. With the assistance of PEI Crime Stoppers, police are able to gather information from Island communities to solve crime and sometimes stop crime before it happens. Community members who have information which may be useful to police are able to use the services of PEI Crime Stoppers to anonymously submit details that can play a key role in keeping our neighbourhoods safe. Often it’s the smallest detail that results in furthering an investigation and stopping criminals from violating property, people and our sense of safety. The ability for concerned citizens to anonymously submit information on the phone, web site and/or text message securely means that more information can be provided in a manner that ensures the safety of the person submitting. It allows people to feel safe and also helps police and their fellow community members in the collective fight against crime. This new Awareness Guide is a key component for the organization to grow awareness and good faith in the communities it serves. Thank you to all of the concerned citizens who have already provided information and have played a vital role in keeping our neighbourhoods and our people safe. Your contributions have undoubtedly helped police by contributing to the information needed to stop crime. It is also my great honour to thank the volunteer Board members and many community members who have given of their time to further the work of Crime Stoppers here on PEI. On behalf of the employees of the RCMP on Prince Edward Island, I would like to thank all of those involved in the Crime Stoppers program through fund raising, public awareness, education and numerous other activities on a volunteer basis. Thank you PEI Crime Stoppers for the many years of service to Islanders and visitors to our province and wish everyone involved many more years of success! Chief Superintendent Jennifer Ebert Commanding Officer, “L” Division RCMP, Prince Edward Island On behalf of Kensington Police Service, I would like to commend Don Rodd as well as the executive and board members for another successful year with PEI Crime Stoppers. I would like to take this time to welcome aboard the new President Mark Pharand. Over the past couple of years, we have noted that more and more citizens are using Crime Stoppers to get tips to law enforcement regarding impaired drivers and drug related offences. This information helps police to carry out investigations and often leads to the arrest of persons involved in criminal activity. PEI Crime Stoppers continues to be a major asset to the policing community on PEI. Numerous arrests are made annually, suspects identified, drugs seized and property recovered as a result of tips contributed by the public. This leads to our Island communities being safer places to work and live. In conclusion, we encourage Islanders to continue using this service as it is a very valuable tool to assisting police agencies to solve crimes. Remember - Crime Stoppers wants your information, not your name! And you will note that there are now 3 ways to provide your tips which include telephone, online and the crime stoppers app. Chief Lewie Sutherland Kensington Police Service Report anonymously via our Mobile App, see peicrimestoppers.com for free download On behalf of the Charlottetown Police Department, I wish to congratulate the PEI Crime Stoppers organization on their 31st year of operation and for producing their 21st Annual Awareness Guide. Crime Stoppers has certainly recognized that the fight against crime is a responsibility shared throughout society. Through hard work and dedication, the Volunteer Board Members and Coordinator, Don Rodd, have demonstrated a leadership role in providing such a worthwhile program within our Island communities. This is a positive program, which assists policing agencies in the investigation of criminal activities. Positive tip information provides useful information, reducing investigation time, which in turn can permit agencies to direct resources into other proactive work within the community. Thank you to Crime Stoppers for helping keep our Island communities safe and strong. Brad MacConnell A\Chief of Police Charlottetown Police Service
