VETERANS’ SERVICE RECOGNITION BOOK – VOLUME 18 / 91 THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND COMMAND SHERREN, George Edward WWI George was born in 1891 in Crapaud, PEI, the son of William Douglas and Florence Sherren. He enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in October 1915 and was assigned to the 2nd Canadian Siege Battery as a Gunner. He was sent overseas on SS Lapland in the fall of 1915. He served in France and parts of Belgium during World War I. He was wounded in one of the battles of Passchendaele. He mustered out from the Army in August 1919 and returned to PEI. George did not end his military association; he was awarded the Honorary Officer’s Meritorious Badge of Service. He served as a recruitment officer for Prince Edward Island Company of Veteran’s Guard and was commissioned as Captain in the 17th Reconnaissance Regiment Reserve Army. George passed away in 1979. SHERREN, Elwin Cannon KOREA Elwin was born in 1931 in Crapaud, PEI, the son of Frederick and Emily (Cannon) Sherren. He enlisted in the Army and served from 1950 to 1954 and served as a Gunner. In 1950, he joined the 119th AA Battery, Heavy Artillery Regiment then transferred to the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery (RCHA). He saw action during the Korean War and was awarded the Korean War Medal, Canadian Volunteer Medal and United Nations Service Medal. Elwin is a 65-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion. SHERREN, Dewar Reagh KOREA Dewar was born in 1928 in Saint John, New Brunswick, the son of Reagh and Eleanor (Smith) Sherren. He enlisted in the Army and served from 1950 to 1966 as Private and Corporal. He was stationed at Camp Petawawa in London, Ontario; Hero, Japan; Central South Korea; Dorset, Germany; Rivers, Manitoba; and Wainwright, Alberta. In 1962, he married Della Medina Trowsdale from Tyron, PEI. He worked as a cook in many locations such as Beachgrove Inn, with CN Ferries, at the County Jail and at St. Dunstan’s University. Dewar passed away in 1992.
