VETERANS’ SERVICE RECOGNITION BOOK – VOLUME 18 / 79 THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND COMMAND NOONAN, Joseph Raymond “Ray” WWII Ray was born in Borden, PEI in 1917. He served with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders in Western Europe during World War II. He was awarded the MM for gallant and distinguished conduct in field on August 19, 1944. He was married to Dorothy Jean “Dot” Beairsto. He was in France on D-Day and was wounded at Zutphen, Netherlands where he was shot through the leg by a sniper. He was flown to England and his right leg was amputated below the knee. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion BordenCarleton Branch 10. Ray died in 1961 in Calgary and is buried there. MURPHY, John William “Bill” WWII John was born in Alberton District, the son of Austin and Janie (Skerry) Murphy. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve in February 1944 and was discharged in February 1946. He served as an Able Seaman in the North Atlantic Convoy Duty. MORRISON, Murdock L. WWII Murdock was born in Roseberry, PEI in 1920. He served with the Black Watch Regiment from 1942 to 1946. Murdock passed away in 1998.
