VETERANS’ SERVICE RECOGNITION BOOK – VOLUME 18 / 71 THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND COMMAND McKAY, Bruce Sutherland WWI Bruce was born in Albany, PEI in 1897. He was a farmer before enlisting in World War I in March 1918 in Nova Scotia. He served with the 1st Depot Battalion and 17th Reserve Battalion in England. McKay got ill during the voyage to England, as the day after arriving in Liverpool he was admitted to Military Isolation Hospital in Aldershot with scarlet fever. While in hospital, he developed measles, pleurisy and bronchial pneumonia and died in hospital on May 22, 1918. He is buried in Aldershot Military Cemetery in Hampshire, England. McGUIGAN, William “Will” WWII Fr. Will McGuigan, son of Albert McGuigan and Kate Connolly, was born in Kinkora, PEI in 1910. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II in the 1940s as Chaplin. Following his discharge, Fr. Will continued to serve many in his ministry as a Redemptorist priest. He served from Newfoundland to the Queen Charlotte Islands. He was lovingly known as “Doc” by his fellow priests and as Uncle Will by his nieces and nephews. He died peacefully at St. Patricks in downtown Toronto at the age of 81, in 1991. McGUIGAN, James Harold “Jim” WWII Jim, son of Albert McGuigan and Kate Connolly, was born in Kinkora, PEI in 1901. He joined the Canadian Army in the 1940s during World War II and worked in the ammunition factories in Canada. He was a farmer by trade. He loved horses and had a name on every milk cow. He would proudly show his horses at the Crapaud Fair. He was very musical and loved to sing and dance. He never missed a chance to attend dances at The Royal Canadian Legion. He was a proud member of The Royal Canadian Legion Borden Carleton Branch 10. Jim passed away in 1983.
