VETERANS’ SERVICE RECOGNITION BOOK – VOLUME 17 / 35 THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND COMMAND CURRIE, Sir Arthur WWI Arthur was the first Canadian to hold the post as 1st Commander of the Canadian Division. He led troops and orchestrated with officers at Mount Sorrell, Battle of the Somme, and Vimy Ridge. Arthur passed away on November 30, 1933 at the age of 57. CRAWFORD, David James WWII David was born in Alberton District, son of David and Jean (Newlands) Crawford. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve on July 2, 1942 and was discharged on September 13, 1945. He served as a Blacksmith Second Class in Canada and Newfoundland. CRAIG, Harrison William WWII Craig was born in Cape Traverse in 1909. He enlisted in the Army and served with the Prince Edward Island Highlanders in Canada and Newfoundland during World War II. He was married to Mildred (Smith) and they had four children. While he was being prepared for a tonsillectomy at the RCAF Hospital in Gander, he had an anaphylactic reaction and died. He was buried in Gander Military Hospital.
