VETERANS’ SERVICE RECOGNITION BOOK – VOLUME 17 / 17 THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND COMMAND BERNARD, Daniel Carl “Danny” PEACETIME Danny was born in Borden in 1947. Danny enlisted in the Navy and served as an able seaman for two years in Peacetime. He was married to Debbie and was a Life Member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 10 BordenCarleton for 47 years. Danny served on several executive positions including Branch Service Officer. BELL, Kenneth John Martin WWI Kenneth was born in Cape Traverse, Prince Edward Island in 1896. He was the nephew of the Prince Edward Island Premier John Howatt Bell. He served in the Army during World War I with the 11th Canadian Field Artillery Brigade in England, Belgium, and France. Kenneth was hit by an enemy shell fire on September 18, 1918. Although attended to by the brigade’s Medical Officer, he died on the way to the dressing station from the unit’s location in Rumaucourt, France. He is buried at Vis-en-Artois British Cemetery. He had previously fought in the battles of the Somme, Vimy Ridge, Lens, Ypres, and Passchendaele. ATKINSON, Earle Neilson WWII Earle was born in Alberton District, son of John Sylvester and Jennie Louise (Nash) Atkinson. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on June 6, 1941 and was discharged on January 5, 1946. He served as a Lance Corporal in Canada.
