VETERANS’ SERVICE RECOGNITION BOOK – VOLUME 17 / 15 THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND COMMAND ARSENAULT, Patrick Raymond WWI Patrick was born in Bedeque, Prince Edward Island in 1896. He enlisted in the Army during World War I and was sent to France from England as a Private in December 1916. He was transferred in error due to a name mix-up, from the 14th Battalion to the 13th Machine Gun Company in January 1917, a unit attached to the 1st Canadian Division. Its role was to support the Infantry Brigades during the Battle of Vimy Ridge. Patrick was killed on the first day of the battle in 1917 and his body was never recovered. His name is inscribed on the Vimy Memorial in France. ARSENAULT, Leroy Julien WWII Leroy was born in Bloomfield District, son of Colas “Nicholas” and Elizabeth (Gallant) Arsenault. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and was discharged in 1945. He served as a Private in the Reconnaissance Unit in France and Belgium. ARSENAULT, John “Alban” WWII John was born in Bloomfield District, son of Benjamin “Ben” and Jeanne (Peters) Arsenault. He enlisted in the Army on March 1, 1943 and was discharged on March 25, 1946. He served as a Private in the Infantry in England and Italy.
