VETERANS’ SERVICE RECOGNITION BOOK – VOLUME 16 / 49 THE ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND COMMAND MacINTYRE, Elmer J. “Happy” WWII Elmer was born in Savage Harbour, PEI on May 29, 1920. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served on the Corvettes in the North Atlantic during World War II. Elmer was awarded the following medals for his service: 1939-1945 Star, Atlantic Star, Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp and War Medal 1939-1945. He came home after the war, married and raised a family of four girls and one boy. Elmer passed away on May 12, 2004. MacEWEN, John Charles WWI John was born on August 29, 1894 in New Dominion, Prince Edward Island, the son of William Henry and Barbara S. MacEwen in New Dominion, Prince Edward Island. He served with the 55th Battalion, the Royal Canadian Regiment. He enlisted on June 10, 1915 in Sussex, New Brunswick. He died on September 28, 1918 he unfortunately was shot in the heart by a sniper. MacAUSLAND, Vernon Wilber WWII Vernon was born in Bloomfield District, son of Murray and Mary Jane (McIntosh)/Josephine (Hardy) McAusland. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 22, 1941 and was discharged on May 30, 1945. He served as a Corporal in the Electrician Unit in Canada.
