Military Service Recognition Book – Volume 15 / 73 The Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Island Command WALKER, Mary Theresa WWII Mary was born in Launching, PEI on September 26, 1923. She enlisted in the Air Force during World War II with the 9th Bombing and Gunnery School in Canada. Mary passed away on October 9, 1972 and is buried in Little Pond Cemetery, PEI. TRAINOR, Kevin Joseph SPECIAL DUTY AREA & PEACETIME Kevin was born in Charlottetown, PEI in 1966. He joined the Royal Canadian Dragoons in 1987 and he served in various roles from leopard tank driver, gunner and commander to armoured reconnaissance. Kevin was a former member of the PEI Regiment. He served overseas with UN in former Yugoslavia and with NATO in Bosnia and Afghanistan. He grew up in Morel, PEI and currently resides in Clyde River. He is a nine year member of the Kingston Legion Branch 30. THOMPSON, John James WWII John was born on April 8, 1924 in Southampton, PEI to Harry and Veronica (Goodfellow) Thompson. He enlisted at sixteen with the PEI Light Horse Regiment (militia). Late 1942, he joined the Light ack ack Artillery with basic training at Beach Grove and after mechanics training in Hamilton, Ontario. At nineteen he was shipped out to Bramshot, England for a few weeks of infantry/rifle training before D-Day. Due to heavy causalities for the Regina Rifles on D Day, a TOS placed John with the Regina Rifles. He served in England, France, Holland and Germany. He fought on the front lines with the Royal Regina Rifles, 7th Brigade, 3rd Division until wars’ end. John and his wife Marie (O’Brien) continue to reside in Sherwood, where they raised their five children and were very active in their community. John is an over seventy year member of the Legion in Charlottetown.
