PECL-17

Lest We Forget / 79 The Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Island Command STEWART, Raymond Leo WWII Raymond was born in West Point, PEI on September 29, 1918 to the late Stephen and Lucy (LeClair) Stewart. Raymond proudly served his country during World War II. He had two brothers, Clifford and Harvey, who died in active duty overseas. He married Helen McDonald and they had six children: Lorne, Kathleen, Blair, Basil, Doris and Stephen. Raymond passed away in Alberton, PEI on November 9, 2009. STEWART, Clifton Elmer WWII Clifton spent his service during World War II as a spy. At age 21, he trained in Oshawa, Ontario at what was known as Camp X. Code names and secrets are all part of security coordination service; as he recalls Camp X “did not exist”. He was an agent for the British Security Coordination under the direction of Sir William Stephenson. He worked across Europe and the United States, attended world conferences in Tehran, San Francisco and Quebec. Clifton modestly agreed that “Everyone has their claim to fame, but everyone did what they had to do.” Clifton makes his spy career sound like mundane, everyday kind of work. Now, at age 87, Clifton remains alert and involved. Clifton still works occasionally exercising his considerable skill as an electrician, a career including designing emergency power systems to which he returned after his war service. STEVENSON, Steve PEACETIME Steve was born in Mount Denis, Ontario in 1928. He joined the Air Force and worked as an Air Photographer in Ottawa, Europe and Manitoba. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion.
