Lest We Forget / 69 RILEY, John M. WWII John, of Belle River, was a Royal Canadian Air Force pilot officer during the Second World War. He flew Spitfires in North Africa and was shot down in 1943. Taken prisoner by the Germans, John was released by the Russians at the end of the war. He passed away on June 18, 2003. RUSSELL, George WWI George was born on September 9, 1891 in Ashton and enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force in World War I. After the war, George moved to St. Peter’s Bay where he lived as a bachelor. He died on March 3, 1965 and is buried in St. Peter’s Bay Roman Catholic Church Cemetery. SANDERSON, Howard WWI Howard, more commonly known as Tommy, was born in Greenwich on July 14, 1897. He enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Force as a Private and was sent overseas. After his discharge, Tommy went to work in Vancouver. He died and is buried there. The Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Island Command
