Lest We Forget / 65 MATTHEWS, Frederick Stewart “Fred” WWII Fred was born in O’Leary, Prince Edward Island on April 15, 1917 to George and Emma (Carruthers) Matthews. He and his four brothers all served overseas during World War Two and all returned home safely. Fred was a member of the 435-436 Burma Squadrons and served with the King and Country, Royal Canadian Air Force 200 Wing and The Royal Canadian Legion, Summerside Branch # 5. He was elected 1st President of the Seniors Veterans Group Branch # 5 of the Royal Canadian Air Force Association. He became the instructor of the Motor Vehicle Repair program at PC Vocational High School in 1962, which later became Holland College. After his retirement, Paul and his wife enjoyed ham radio conventions. He passed away in December 1993 and left behind his wife (now deceased), a stepson and three daughters. McKEIGAN, Charles “Putt” WWII Charles was born in Pictou, Nova Scotia on March 7, 1925 and moved to Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island at a young age. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy. He passed away on November 24, 2006. The Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Island Command MATHEWS, Basil Clayton WWII Private Basil Mathews was born in the Alberton District and served in the Royal Canadian Army with #6A Clearing Depot from February 19, 1942 to September 13, 1942.
