Lest We Forget / 65 sTeWaRT, Lloyd Joseph WWII Lloyd was born on July 24, 1924 in Charlottetown, PE. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve in 1941 and served on HMCS Queen Charlotte. On May 18, 1942, Lloyd drowned in Charlottetown Harbour while on a training exercise. He is buried in Peoples Roman Catholic Cemetery, Charlottetown. sTeWaRT, Jack H. L. WWII Jack was born in Winsloe Station, PE in 1916. He served in the Navy on the HMCS Prince Rupert in Canada and on the high seas. Jack died in 2002. sTeWaRT, James H. WWII James was born in Winsloe Station, PE in 1914. He served in the Navy in Canada and on the high seas. James died in 2003. sUTHeRLaND, John Cyril WWII Leading Aircraftsman Sutherland, son of John P. and Sarah (MacLaren) Sutherland, was born on February 22, 1907 in Goose River, PE. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 but was exempted from an overseas post because of his age. Volunteering to take the place of a married airman, John was sent to England, Gibraltar then to Germany where he died on September 24, 1944 after his plane was shot down. THOMPsON, Charles Cameron WWI & WWII Lt. Col. Charles Cameron Thompson, M.C., V.D was born in Montague, PE in 1892. He served in WWI with the PEI Highlanders in England, and in France with the 26th New Brunswick Regiment. He was awarded the Military Cross for Gallantry in Action. After the war, he served on the National Pensions Board and in 1936, was promoted to command the PEI Highlanders as Lieutenant-Colonel. In WWII, he served in Canada and in the North Atlantic sector commanding the PEI Highlanders (Black Watch), forming part of the Canadian Active Service Force. He retired from active service in 1943 due to illness but maintained over 35 years of continuous service at Island Militia camps. The Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Island Command
