Lest We Forget / 1 The Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Island Command On behalf of the Province of Prince Edward Island, I would like to extend warm congratulations and best wishes to the Royal Canadian Legion on the publication of this sixth edition of the War Service Recognition Booklet. Islanders have a long and proud tradition of responding to the call of duty both in times of peace and conflict. This particular publication will serve as a lasting legacy to the commitment and dedication of Island veterans who served our country during the two World Wars, the Korean War, and the Peacekeeping and Afghanistan Missions. Let us continue to honour the memory of those individuals who fought to ensure the freedom we enjoy today. Robert Ghiz Premier of Prince Edward Island Message from The Premier

Lest We Forget / 3 The Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Island Command As we celebrate the 65th Anniversary of D Day and remember the many heroic deeds of Canadian Service personnel during the Europe invasion, we are reminded of the sacrifices made by those Veterans. I am both pleased and proud with this year’s Commemorative booklet which depicts a number of D Day veterans and outlines the history of The Royal Canadian Legion on Prince Edward Island. The Royal Canadian Legion was first organized on Prince Edward Island in 1926 by Veterans with the aim of assisting other Veterans and their dependents and also to ensure that the sacrifices’made by their Comrades would be remembered. Prince Edward Island Command of The Royal Canadian Legion, its members, staff and the Ladies Auxiliary, wish to extend our thanks to all who provided assistance in making this latest booklet a success. This booklet will enable Prince Edward Island Command to continue to provide support to our Veterans, Youth and various community programs.
