Lest We Forget / 55 NOONAN, Mary Katheryn WWII Mary was born in Borden, PEI in June 1923. She served the Canadian Women’s Army Corp from November 1943 to October 1945 in Canada and England. O’CONNOR, John WWI & WWII John was born on October 13, 1899, son of Elizabeth (Benoit) and John O’Connor, in Sturgeon, Kings County, PEI. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on March 14, 1916 and served with the 105th Overseas Battalion CEF. During World War One, he served at the Battle of Vimy Ridge and was wounded in the elbow and knee. During World War Two, he served in the Veteran’s Guard in a prison camp for Germans in New Brunswick. John passed away May 8, 1948. O’CONNOR, John Reginald “Reg” WWII Reginald was born in Kildare, PEI in 1919. He served the Canadian Army from May 1940 to January 1946, with the Prince Edward Island RS in Canada, the United Kingdom and Central Europe. Reginald passed away in July 1998. PAQUET, Philip WWII Philip was born on May 31, 1921 in Souris, PEI. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1940 and served overseas. He flew communications flights all over Africa, Iran, India and Arabia before illness grounded him and he was posted back home in 1944. Philip passed away on November 13, 1988. PAYNTER, Frederick Leigh WWII Killed in Action Frederick was born on August 31, 1922 in French River, PEI, son of Wesley and Violet Paynter. He enlisted in the North Nova Scotia Highlanders in 1940 at the age of seventeen. Frederick was killed in action on July 25, 1944, and he is buried in Bretteville-Sur-Laize Canadian War Cemetery, Calvados, France. The Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Island Command
