Lest We Forget / 1 The Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Island Command Message from The Premier On behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, I am pleased to have been asked to include warm greetings in this special commemorative booklet dedicated in memory of those veterans from Prince Edward Island who served in World War I, World War II and the Korean War. Prince Edward Islanders have always had a long and proud tradition of serving others. Their sense of duty, both in times of war and peace, has inspired us all and made us better citizens. This publication is indeed a fitting way to recognize the contribution of those who served in World Wars I and II, as well as the Korean War. The Royal Canadian Legion is to be commended on this initiative and so I offer my congratulations and best wishes as you produce this third booklet dedicated to their memory. Barbara Hagerman Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island On behalf of the Government of Prince Edward Island, I would like to extend my best wishes to The Royal Canadian Legion on the production of this War Recognition Booklet. The Royal Canadian Legion provides a valuable service in support of veterans and their families, and to ensure that the cause of freedom is never forgotten. This service, in our communities, to veterans, our youth and the elderly of this province is greatly appreciated. All Islanders gratefully acknowledge your endeavours and may you continue to improve the quality of life for Islanders. Sincerely, Pat Binns Premier of Prince Edward Island Message from The Lieutenant Governor

The Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Island Command In 2005, we marked the Year of the Veteran and were reminded of the tremendous accomplishments of the individuals. This year, we celebrate the 80th Anniversary of The Royal Canadian Legion. As Canada’s largest veterans’ organization, The Royal Canadian Legion has a long and noble history of being able to present a common front in advocating responsibilities for the well being of veterans and their families. The Legion will continue this process now and well into the future. To all those who during the past 80 years formed a part of this great organization, thank you for giving us and maintaining a Royal Canadian Legion we can truly be proud of. Once again, P.E.I. Command of The Royal Canadian Legion, its members, staff and Provincial Ladies’ Auxiliary, extend our thanks to all who provided assistance in making this project a great success. We are grateful to all who provided pictures and information of our veterans. Through the efforts of this booklet, our organization will continue its strong support in the community towards education, arts (Literary and Poster Contest), sports and our veterans. We Will Remember Them Jack MacEachern Provincial President It is with great pleasure that I introduce you to this third booklet of Remembrance from the members of Prince Edward Island Command of The Royal Canadian Legion. The War Service Recognition Booklet dedicated to the memory of those who served in both world wars and the war in Korea is one in which all those who have participated can be proud. It shows that Remembrance can be an every day occurrence in Canada and is a great tribute to those who donned the uniforms of this nation’s military forces and Merchant Navy when their presence was needed. The men and women of Prince Edward Island can be very proud of their commitment to Canada and to the Commonwealth they served during these very harsh times. This booklet highlights that pride in the past and the hope of all of us for a better future. In this our 80th year of dedicated service to our veterans and our communities I congratulate you all for taking this wonderful step to keep the memories of those who served alive.
