Lest We Forget / 1 The Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Island Command Message from The Premier On behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, I am pleased to offer best wishes in this second edition of your War Service Recognition Booklet dedicated to the memory of those veterans from Prince Edward Island who served in World War I, World War II and the Korean War. The contribution of Legion members, not only in times of war but also during peace, has been truly outstanding. Your service to this province has been an inspiration to all of us and has made our Island a better place in which to live. The publication of this second commemorative booklet is a strong indicator of the high esteem in which our veterans are held and a testimony to the many sacrifices made so that we all are able to live in freedom. Congratulations to all who have contributed in any way to this publication and I wish you continued success in your valuable work. J. Léonce Bernard Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island On behalf of the Government of Prince Edward Island, I would like to extend my best wishes to The Royal Canadian Legion on the production of this War Recognition Booklet. The Royal Canadian Legion provides a valuable service in support of veterans and their families, and to ensure that the cause of freedom is never forgotten. This service, in our communities, to veterans, our youth and the elderly of this province is greatly appreciated. All Islanders gratefully acknowledge your endeavours and may you continue to improve the quality of life for Islanders. Sincerely, Pat Binns Premier of Prince Edward Island Message from The Lieutenant Governor
The Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Island Command As we celebrate the Year of the Veteran, we are reminded that it honors all those who served in all the services. This year also marks the 60th Anniversary of the end of World War 2, and as we reflect on that era, we become more aware that it is our ongoing responsibility, and that, of future generations to carry the torch of Remembrance. Peace itself demands continuing effort and renewed sacrifice by those who serve. PEI Command of The Royal Canadian Legion, it’s Members, staff and the Ladies Auxiliary, wish to extend our thanks to all who provided assistance in making this booklet a huge success. The individuals who were so kind to forward pictures of the Veterans and a brief biography, our thanks also goes out to you. So many memories of youthful men and women. This booklet ensures that P.E.I. Command will continue to provide support to our Veterans, Youth, and the various community programs. MacLean in appreciation to the men and women who served their country. A Song For The Brave To the heroes that we owe for our freedom Who fought and died in a land across the sea Brave young men and courageous young women They answered the country’s call for you and me Good men died out on the field of battle And in the battles upon the raging sea Those brave men that gave all they had to give So the people could live in a land that’s free Gave up their youth and their prime for this country left their homes and the people they loved so dear Those that returned had to live with tragic memories of the hardship, and the death, and of the fear Good men died out on the field of battle And in the battles upon the raging sea Those brave men that gave all that they had to give So the people could live in a land that’s free Good men died out on the field of battle -John A.
