Lest We Forget / 1 The Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Island Command Message from The Premier On behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, I am pleased to extend warm greetings in this special commemorative booklet dedicated to those veterans from Prince Edward Island who served in World War 1, World War 11 and the Korean War. Islanders have always had a long and proud tradition of serving when called upon; their sense of duty and service toward their country and their sacrifice for the cause of freedom has been truly outstanding. We all have been inspired by their heroics and this publication is one way of recognizing their contribution during wartime. Congratulations to The Royal Canadian Legion on this publication and continued best wishes in all your endeavours. J. Léonce Bernard Lieutenant Governor of Prince Edward Island On behalf of the Government of Prince Edward Island, I would like to extend my best wishes to The Royal Canadian Legion on the production of this War Recognition Booklet. The Royal Canadian Legion provides a valuable service in support of veterans and their families, and to ensure that the cause of freedom is never forgotten. This service, in our communities, to veterans, our youth and the elderly of this province is greatly appreciated. All Islanders gratefully acknowledge your endeavours and may you continue to improve the quality of life for Islanders. Sincerely, Pat Binns Premier of Prince Edward Island Message from The Lieutenant Governor
2 / www.legion.ca On behalf of the Executive Council, staff, Ladies’ Auxiliary and Members of Prince Edward Island Command, The Royal Canadian Legion, thanks to all who made this, our second Commemorative Booklet, a reality. Revenue from the production of this booklet will ensure that P.E.I. Command can carry on with our Veterans’, Seniors’ and Youth programs into the future. Thanks to the Legion Branches and individuals who provided pictures for the booklet. This will bring back memories and ignite friendships, old and new. To the many Canadians who so willingly went to war and sacrificed their lives, and our veterans who were fortunate enough to return, we can never thank you enough. We also thank our peace time service men and women who have served and are still serving now around the world so we can enjoy the life we have today in Canada. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them. Carmen Phillips Provincial President The Royal Canadian Legion Prince Edward Island Command Message from The President
