97 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND CHISHOLM, Howard G. Howard was born on January 19, 1908, in South Baymouth, Ontario. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1939 and served with the Highland Light Infantry of Canada during World War II. Corporal Chisholm received his discharge in 1946 and was awarded the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. After the war, he worked as a fisherman and later he and his wife operated a restaurant in Tobermory, ON. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Tobermory Branch 290 and served as its President in 1952. Howard passed away in October 1969. CHRISTIE, John W. John was born on March 6, 1924, in Mooresburg, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on March 24, 1943. He trained as a gunner and was posted to a merchant ship, the Greenhill Park. John served in the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve in the South Pacific, East Asia and the Atlantic during World War II. Following his discharge on November 5,1945, he worked in farming at Chesley Feed Mill, later working at General Motors in St. Catharines where he was employed for 30 years. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Chesley Branch 144 for over 60 years. John passed away on April 15, 2013. CHISU, Corneliu Emil Eugen Corneliu was born in Satu Mare, Romania on February 13, 1949. Major (ret’d) Chisu, a military engineer, is a graduate of Electrical Engineering (M.Eng, University of Toronto) and of the Militia Staff Course (PMSC) - Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College. He enrolled in the Army (Regular Force) on January 5, 1990 and deployed to Bosnia in 2004 where he assumed key roles as the Multinational Task Force (NorthWest) Task Force Engineer and the Technical Authority Engineer. In 2007, he deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan as the ESU Requirements Officer providing infrastructure management support. His public service has included Vice President elect of the Professional Engineers Ontario and Member of Parliament for Pickering Scarborough East where he served as member of the National Defence and Veterans Committees. He was awarded the Canadian Forces Decoration CD and (CD1); The NATO medal for Balkan Operations; The Canadian Peacekeeper Medal; The Afghanistan General Campaign Star, 2007; The Commemorative Medal for the Golden and Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II; Civic Merit Medal Republic of Moldova 2012; Knight Cross “Civic Merit” Republic of Hungary 2014; Officer Cross “Civic Merit” Republic of Romania 2016. He was released on February 13, 2014. Corneliu is a twenty-year member of the Royal Canadian Legion Uxbridge Branch 170.
