69 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BROWN, Ernest Arthur Ernest was born in Collingwood, Ontario on July 21, 1897 and grew up in Acton when the family moved there in 1899. Ern worked for a printing company in Toronto. Although exempt from military service, on May 13, 1918, he went to Hamilton to enlist in the Army (Regular Force) and was drafted into the 102nd Battalion, 1st Depot – 2nd Central Ontario Regiment. After training in England, Ern was sent to France in October and received honourable mention for valour in the machine gun section. He was discharged from the service on June 9, 1919. Ern died in Toronto on December 23, 1971, at the age of 75. BROWN, Kristoffer Scott Kristoffer was born in Burlington, Ontario on January 6, 1975. He enlisted in the Navy in January 2000 and served as both an Able Seaman Naval Communicator and anA/SLT MARS Officer. He joined the Reserves at HMCS Griffonin Thunder Bay and sailed on HMCS Cowichan, Nanaimo, and Anticosti. He left the Navy after serving five years in 2005. Kristoffer has been residing in Acton, Ontario since July 2015 and is a fourteen-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Acton Branch 197. BROWN, Jack Gilbert Jack was born on December 7, 1931, in Saltcoats, Saskatchewan, to Frank and Agnes (Jones) along with four siblings, Marjorie (Shantz), Bill, Doug, and Phyllis (Koebel). He received his education at Plattsville Public School. Jack enlisted on June 27, 1952 with the Royal Canadian Regiment to serve in the Korean conflict. Basic training, including specialized trooper, prepared him for his trip to Korea. Corporal Jack Brown was discharged on June 27, 1954. Jack was an avid hunter, sports player, and always proud of raising champion hunting dogs. John married Helen (Vandelinde) and they raised eight children, Dawn, Wanda, Wendy, Cynthia, Jackie, Sandra, Patricia, and Jim. His working life was fulfilled by working at Plumbing and Heating Businesses. Jack passed away on November 22, 2016 and is buried in the Chesterfield Cemetery in Chesterfield, Oxford County, Ontario.
