53 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BINGEMAN, Robert Donald Robert was born on April 14, 1924 in New Hamburg, Ontario, to Lawrence and Minnie (Forler) along with three siblings, Lorraine, Lawrence, and Reginald. He attended public school in New Hamburg and high school in Kitchener and grade ten K.C.I. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) for World War II in July 1943 and was attached to the Royal Canadian Engineers. He served in Canada until being discharged in October 1946. Robert married Genova (Eros) and they raised two boys, Barry and Kevin. He joined The Royal Canadian Legion in 1954 where he accumulated fifty years of membership. He was employed with the Department of Highways (DHO). He enjoyed the outdoors, which is proven by his hobbies, golf and gardening. Robert passed away on November 16, 2003 and is laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery in New Hamburg. BLAIR, William Henry “Bill” Bill was born on August 24, 1912, in Toronto, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1930 and served with 31st Canadian Minesweeping Flotilla. He was deployed to HMCS Fort Williamfrom Halifax Naval Base on February 20, 1944. William served on the HMCS Fort William, the second ship at Omaha Beach providing an amphibious landing on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He earned the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. He was discharged in November 1945. Bill married Edith (Taylor) on June 7, 1938. After discharge he worked for Canada Post until his retirement. Bill and Edith had two children, Edith and Gail. He was a six-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Uxbridge Branch 170 and served as President, Past President and Treasurer. He resided in Port Perry since 1976. Bill passed away on December 19, 1984, at the age of 72. He is interred at Epsom Cemetery in Ontario. BLACK, Samuel F. Samuel was born on November 21, 1925, in Lindsay, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy on June 19, 1944 at HMCS Donnacona. He was at home on a 30 day leave when Victory in Europe Day was declared. Samuel was discharged on December 3, 1945. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lindsay Branch 67 for 3 years and a member of Port Perry Branch 419 for 22 years. Samuel passed away on March 31, 2003.
