41 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND BAWTINHEIMER, Ronald William Ronald was born in Toronto, Ontario on May 28, 1936. He enlisted in the Navy (Regular Force) on June 18, 1953. After serving five years as a Radar Plotter on various ships, Ron retired on June 17, 1958. He eventually joined the North York Fire Department where he served until his retirement. He was involved with the Royal Canadian Sea Cadets and was the C.O. of HMCS Compass Rose. BEALE, James A. James was born on April 16, 1923, in Ottawa, Ontario. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force on October 29, 1942 and served with the 550 Bomber Command at North Killingholme, England, flying over 30 sorties and was awarded a DFC. He was discharged on September 22, 1945 and joined the Royal Canadian Air Force again in November 1946. During his post-war service, he was an aero engine technician and changed to flight engineer in 1948 and was involved in the Korean Air Lift. He had some impressive passengers including Queen Elizabeth, Churchill and Prime Minister St. Laurent, Pearson and Diefenbaker. He retired as a Warrant Officer in 1973 and remained a civilian employee in Trenton until 1987. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Trenton Branch 110 for 20 years. James passed away on July 19, 2013. BAYLISS, Benjamin Benjamin was born in London, England on January 29, 1894. He enlisted in the Army (Regular Force) on October 23, 1914 and served with 18th Infantry Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force in Europe during World War I. He was mentioned in dispatches for distinguished gallant services and devotion to duty on November 13, 1916 and was awarded the Military Medal for bravery in the field. Benjamin was severely wounded in the left thigh and was hospitalized. He returned to duty two months later. He also received a concussion from artillery round and mustard gas. He was hospitalized again for one month and returned to duty. Benjamin was discharged on March 1, 1919. He resided in Acton, Ontario and was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 197 for 28 years. Benjamin passed away on February 21, 1959.
