377 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WEST, Earle Cornelius Earle was born in Burk’s Falls, Parry Sound District, Ontario on November 3, 1912. He enlisted on May 25, 1943. He served in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Central Mediterranean area, specifically Italy. Earle was sent overseas in March 1944 and to the Mediterranean Theatre in May 1944. He was wounded on September 1, 1944, a through and through to his left arm. Earle was reported missing, likely captured, on December 17, 1944, in Italy. On March 29, 1945, he was reported missing likely captured on December 17, 1944 in Italy. On March 29, 1945, he was reported as a Prisoner of War in Italy. On May 11, 1945, Earle was a liberated and on May 13 was reported safe in the United Kingdom. Earle received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp, 1939-1945 Star, Italy Star, and War Medal 1939-1945. During his service, he served as a Field Gunner, Bren Light Machine Gunner, and Laundry Helper. Earle was discharged on December 21, 1945 upon demobilization. Before enlistment, Earle was employed as a labourer at Anglo Canadian Leather Company in Huntsville, Ontario where he returned until 1960. Then, he was employed as a Tanner in Beardmore Tannery in Acton until his retirement in 1977. Earle passed away on June 27, 1983. WHITE, William J. William was born on February 14, 1920, in Ballymovey, Northern Ireland. He enlisted in the Canadian Army on May 20, 1943 and served as a Corporal in Canada, United Kingdom and Continental Europe. Before being dispatched to active duty in Europe, he trained troops at Camp Borden. William was discharged on September 23, 1946. William was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Simcoe Branch 79 before he passed away on August 1, 2007. WHITE, Patrick Joseph Born in St. John’s on March 17, 1959, Patrick is a native of Newfoundland and Labrador. He enrolled in the Army (Regular Force) in 1976 becoming a member of the Royal Canadian Corps of Artillery (RCHA). His service included “D” Battery and “E” Battery (Para) 2 RCHA, 1RCHA in 4CMBG Lahr, Germany, Combat Training Centre Gagetown, completed an operational tour on United Nations Duty in Cyprus in 1993. In 1994, CaptainWhite was posted to Land Forces Atlantic Area Headquarters (LFAAHQ) in Halifax. He served with the Princess Louise Fusiliers (PLF) from 1994 to 2004. He was commissioned in June 2007 and was employed as the Adjutant for 5 Canadian Ranger Patrol Group until December 2011. In January 2011, CaptainWhite deployed on Operation SAFARI, Sudan (Africa). Returning in August 2011 he was employed at LFAA HQ as G4 Transportation until July 2012 when he was appointed as the Divisional Adjutant for 5th Canadian Division Headquarters, retiring in 2018. On October 23, 2015, CaptainWhite was appointed to the Order of Military Merit (Member). As of 2018, Patrick resides in Tiny and is a five-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Penetang Branch 68.
