375 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WEISMILLER, Lloyd Charles Lloyd was born in Bala, Ontario on December 31, 1920 and attended grade school in Bala and secondary school in Gravenhurst. He worked in the family business Weismiller Lumber Ltd. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force (Regular Force) on June 25, 1942 as a A/C II and trained to be a wireless radio operator. He was honourably released as a LAC on March 21, 1946. He returned to Bala, married May Hastle and they had two daughters, Donna Bartley and Dianne McAuley. The family lived on Gray Street and had a cottage on Currie Street facing the Wallace Cut. Lloyd and his two brothers, Earl and Roy, managed the family business for several years and Roy’s son Wayne, who had been employed there, took over the business operation in 1998. The business is still operating successfully with Wayne’s sons. Lloyd was a founding member of the Bala Curling Club and also the treasurer of the Bala legion for many years. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Bala Branch 424 for 54 years. Lloyd passed away on April 24, 2010. WELLWOOD (DAWSON), Fern Alice Fern was born in 1922. He joined the Army during World War II and served in Canada with the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. He was awarded the 1939-1945 Star and the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. Fern passed away in 2011. WELLWOOD, Allan Millfred Allan was born in 1919 in Elmsdale, Hants County, Nova Scotia. He joined the Army during World War II and served in Canada with No. 37 Provost Corps for which he received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal on December 11, 1943. Allan passed away in 1972.
