371 www.on.legion.ca ONTARIO COMMAND WARDROP, Percy Percy was born on June 20, 1924, in White Mouth, Manitoba. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force on February 2, 1943 and served in Canada, England, France and on the Continent. He was discharged on April 29, 1946. Percy received the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal with Clasp, the 1939-1945 Star and the France and Germany Star. He was Vice President and President of The Royal Canadian Legion Wawa Branch 429 as well as a Life Member for sixty years before he passed away on April 27, 2009. WARNOCK, William George William was born in Southampton, Ontario on May 26, 1923. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Engineers on May 6, 1942 and transferred to the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps serving in Canada and England during World War II. He was discharged on June 25, 1945. William was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion Chesley Branch 144 for fifty years before he passed away on May 2, 2006. WARGON, Allan Allan was born in Lodz Poland on July 4, 1925. The family moved to Canada in 1926 and was settled in Toronto. In 1943, at the age of 17, Allan enlisted in the Army with the Queen’s Own Rifles as a Reservist. Allan became crippled from an earlier training accident. He was honourably discharged in 1946. After Allan’s military service, he was a painter and designer and was crucial in establishing the Canadian commercial film industry. He made 150 films as a writer, producer and director. Some of his noted films include: The Longhouse People, Varley, Wolfe and Montcalm and Canadian Profile. As a result of The Longhouse People, he was fully adopted by the Cayuga / Iroquois First Nation. For his fourth career, Allan became an organic farmer for 50 years and published four novels. He was the 2023 Grand Marshal for the Canada Day Parade of East York and an active participant in the CNE’s Warrior’s Day Parade. Allan married Esther in 1974. They live in North York Ontario. He is a two-year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Todmorden Branch 10.
